I want but not necessarily useful accessories

There are many different bits available to astronomers but sometimes you can get caught in the I want but do I really need it scenario.

My personal eye catcher is from Baader Planetarium Stronghold Tangent Assembly. https://www.baader-planetarium.com/de/z ... eiger.html
At most I would use it for mounting finder scopes on my different refractors so a expensive tool.
So far I have managed to hold off on purchasing one but who knows what may happen tomorrow! :)

What are your accessories like this?
See Far Sticks: Antares Elita 103/1575, AOM FLT 105/1000, Bresser BV 127/1200, Nočný stopár 152/1200, Vyrobené doma 70/700, Stellarvue NHNG DX 80/552, TAL RS100/1000, Vixen SD115s/885

Well I actually bought dual scope mounting saddles but used them so rarely I eventually downsized them away.

Ok, ok, I went down the rabbit hole with filter wheels before finally ending up with a filter drawer with enough adapters to connect DSLR or dedicated. I'm now the proud owner of two filter wheels of which only one got used. And the other I don't even have filters for!

Well, it *is* pretty und kommt es in blau...

Can't think of anything for my scopes proper, but I've been considering getting a pilot's kneeboard for trying some sketching. Probably easier than futzing with a clipboard.

Oh wait, maybe a zoom EP for my 50mm. Never had a zoom, so it could be interesting.

aber ich habe keine blauen teleskope, also würde ich wahrscheinlich das schwarze nehmen...
I have held off buying one for a couple of years so I may be able to resist.

Get a binoviewer for the 50mm, then you can get 2 zooms! ;)

Over the last 6 months I have sold half of my telescopes so now down to only 6, also sold 75% of my eyepieces but still have 84...
One or both of us need a intervention.

I am told admitting you have a problem is the first step.

Boy, you've got it bad. 84 eyepieces....... :Astronomer1:
I'll have to introduce you to my friend Phil.... large set of premium eyepieces selected to suit each of his 3 scopes. Plus a bino eyepiece set.

After 44 years, I probably have about 25 eyepieces.

I have 4 Naglers (31,17, 12, 7mm), 2 Denks(21mm, 14mm) , 2 Pentax XW (5mm,10mm).
These and a few other old eyepieces that I like (Unitron K40mm, Meade Or 25mm, 12mm, Konig 16mm, ES11mm 82 deg) are all I ever use.

I recently looked at my collect found a few midrange eyepieces that I want to sell since I have premium alternates and hardly ever use them.
Baader Hyperion 5mm 82 deg UWA
Meade Ser 4000 84 deg 4.7mm UWA
Explore Scientific 11mm 82 deg UWA
Nagler 12mm T1 82 deg UWA
A handful of others that came with small OTA's that I wouldn't sell to anybody lest I put them off astronomy.

Obviously, there is nothing I want but don't need. If I want it, clearly I need it

I'm okay. I have enough to keep me busy and learning. If I were to splurge right now it might possibly be for a solar telescope. I find them interesting and I haven't spent much time focusing on the sun. I also find them a bit limiting. It is hard to make myself splurge that much on an item used to look at only one object.

At one point there were 34 complete telescope setups (telescope with mounts), 300+ eyepieces and way to many accessories.
I could have opened a shop!
With the current (ridiculous) prices for eyepieces in EU I have been selling a few more items which has paid for a couple of more items to fund further downsizing.
All of my EQ-5 class mounts are gone and will be replaced with a Vixen AXJ and accessories for it.

This is why I like the new Coronado III series, a achromatic refractor with the filters external so you can use it as a solar telescope or as a achro. Expensive though :(

It is a nice option to have though ;)
It was not to bad as the favorites were usually closest to the door. When we decided to re-locate there was a major purge!
Instead of having a large room my new storage space is 1 x 2 metres.
I still need to downsize the eyepiece collection though that requires a lot more thinking on what to let go.

If anyone wants to "downsize" a pair of 12.5mm orthos or plossls for binoviewing my way it would be gratefully received! :D

I'm pretty happy with the collection I have although perhaps should not have sold that Delos 14mm! Although I don't see the 120ST getting much more use personally I'll keep it for my daughters to use.

Accessories I want but not necessarily need.... I would really like a 1.25 prism diagonal - it's definitely not essential though I'm wondering if the glare issue I'm finding on bright objects is an issue with the 2" aluminium Televue diagonal - need to test further.

A 13mm Nagler T6 would be nice (to replace the 14mm Delos sold... :) Not absolutely necessary though since the jump from 17.3mm to 10mm is generally acceptable in all my scopes.
SW Flextube 12" Dobsonian.

Eyepieces: TV Delos 17.3 & 10; Pentax XW 7 & 5; BCO 32,18,10; Fuyiyama Ortho 12.5; Vixen SLV 25.

Saw an orange anodized knob set for one of my mounts a few years back. Didn't pick them up at the time and not sure if they are still available.

Sure would be pretty though ")

Sure would be pretty though ")

The Starbase Orthos are receiving good reviews and you could purchase 2 14mm for the price of a single TeleVue plossl.

Agreed. I have a single set of the Starbase Orthos and if I didn't already have doubles of the BCOs I'd consider a 2nd set of the Starbase for binoviewing. I have an observing report using theme some where here....
