Marine layer cleared off early today. A really nice set of spots nearing the western edge. This is a while light drawing using a 72mm scope and Herschel Wedge by Unitron (from the 80s). Gotta change papers. These art papers are no doing it for me. Too much texture

Nice sketches and photograph!

The texture of the paper is part of the job. Part of the artwork. Don't be annoyed by it. If you still don't like it, simple printing paper can do the job.

Photographing a sketch provides extra precautions. I have to deal with that too.
Your light source should not be too bright and should be diffuse light if possible, otherwise you will get a lighter area in your sketch, a circle, round spot or a bar for example. (A kind of image of the lamp) You can try to cover the light with a sheet of white paper.
Preferably light from straight above, oblique light will get you more texture and gradients. Photographing under direct sunlight is always my preference. Beware of shadows though. Lens aperture at 5.6 or 8 because of vignetting in the corners. If you keep having unwanted gradients you can always try to make a scan.

Keep up the good work!

Hi Jeff. A very nice solar sketch using the 72mm scope and Herschel Wedge by Unitron. And your art rendition sketch shows almost all of the details of the photo image. Thanks for sharing your work with us Jeff and congratulations on receiving the TSS VROD Award today.

Thanks all... Thank you for such nice replies. Weird but I think the Unitron wedge is better/sharper than the Lunt 1.25 inch wedge though they are separated by 40 years.
There is no branding on the Unitron. I only found it was Unitron by looking at some scans of mid 80's Unitron catalogs. Believe me, at first I was VERY hesitant to use it having bought it for $60 on eBay.
However to my eye, it is VERY sharp. I use it with a Baader MV filter, and of course a Baader 3.0 ND filter, and then a variable polarizing filter.
