M101, The Pinwheel Galaxy, is a beautiful face on spiral galaxy located in Ursa Major and is approximately 21 mly distant. It is about 170,000 ly wide and contains about a trillion stars.
I have the hardest time processing this target!
I set up to image M101 a few weeks ago and had to abort due to a controlled burn north of me that flooded my area with thick smoke high up in the atmosphere.
So, I decided to tackle last years data set (again) with a new and fresh attitude. M101 has always been a “toughie” for me to process and get results that I am happy with. This process was no exception!
I decided to leave the
Ha data (L-eNhance) out of this and just re-process the 9’22” of broadband data.
Finally, I think that this version is okay for now. Way different from the original version from last year. You can see the four revisions from the past few weeks on AB, so this thing has come a long way.
Regardless if there is an improvement, I have learned several things along the way which makes this a positive experience.
Thanks for looking! Comments positive or negative are very welcome!
