Arp 248 - Wild's Triplet

Arp 248 (Wild’s Triplet*) consists of (top left to right – west to east) MCG-01-30-034 (PGC 36742, VV 35c and others), MCG-01-30-033 (PGC36733, VV 35/b and others) and MCG-01-30-032 (PGC 36723, VV 35a and others). Found in Arp’s, ‘Galaxies (not classifiable as S or E): Appearance of Fission’ class, these are located approximately 250 million light-years away in Virgo.

The bright star (mag 7.57 V) above Arp 248 is HD 102331 (HIP 57456 and many others).

Luminance – 34x600s – 340 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2

460 minutes total exposure – 7 hours 40 minutes

Imaged March 30th and 31st and April 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2022 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm
