Re: M41 blew my mind 😳
M35 was amazing in my 127mm Mak. Must be even better in a 10" Dob .
I would recommend M13 in Hercules. It is a globular cluster but still worth a look. M22 will be better later in the year.

Pretty awesome, bookmarked this one! Thanx.Unitron48 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 1:49 pm Good news! There are lots of great open clusters for a 10 inch DOB. Try M35/NGC 2158 in Gemini.
Here is a nice list to choose from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_open_clusters. Enjoy!!

In addition to weather forecasts (I check two apps few times a day) I can also tell you any given day the times of sunset, sunrise, Moon set, rise and phase. I used to follow tides too, but now with astronomy in full swing I pretty much abandoned surf fishing.Frankskywatcher wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 12:51 pmI just laughed out loud reading this because you are spot on with the “situational depression “pakarinen wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 10:55 amYeah... Re: M41 blew my mind 😳
Hi Frank,
I have seen posts to this thread for a few days and I just want to say that I agree that M41 is really awesome!
I haven't bino'ed for awhile, but I would always use M41 this time of year to judge the seeing. When it really popped (and it does really pop), my seeing was really good and I could see lots of DEO's with the 10x50 Bushnells.

Fat Kitty you made me laugh, my wife doesn’t even bother any more!
That night when I found the beehive, after putting some magnification on it and it being so bright I yelled out “ holy ”, and my wife came running outside and said “ what the matter “ and I replied “ nothing, nothing at all” she looked at me puzzled and went back inside!

These last few posts really made me smile
It is so good that you have understanding wives. I imagine there could be quite a bit of eye-rolling from them at you guys at times
I am also lucky that my lovely partner Sophia also likes to skywatch with me, so it is a collaborative hobby for us.

Although M41 is a bit tougher from the UK, as it never rises that high, it is very underrated in my opinion. I see it in binoculars and it is a good target for a DSLR and zoom lens.

Re: M41 blew my mind 😳
Here is what I put in my journal about the open cluster M41 the Little Beehive back on Feb. 10, 2014, viewing it with my 10” DOB at 46x. ‘ I really like the Little Beehive. It has a couple of wide yellow stars that could pass for a pair of eyes, a trunk, outstretched arms, two spindly legs, and voila, you have a person.” At another time I suggested a lobster. I made a sketch at the telescope to back up the observation in my own mind, and I’m really glad I did. Astronomy is so much fun!
