Eyepiece Story.
Hi everyone,
I have a story I want to share about an eyepiece.
I lost my Svbony 7-21mm zoom eyepiece in December 2021. I was sad, it was a good eyepiece, served me well. I ordered a 20mm eyepiece to replace it.
Two days ago, I walked out on the back porch, near a big pile of melting snow. I looked down, looking at rocks, and I found it! It was buried in the snow, it turns out. How it got there, I’ll never know.
Then came the interesting part. There was a LOT of moisture inside the eyepiece, ruining the field of view. I tried taking it apart, but it wouldn’t come apart. I couldn’t fix it. I decided to sleep on it until I got an idea of how to fix it.
The next morning, I woke up and looked at it. The moisture inside the eyepiece was GONE.
I don’t know how the moisture disappeared, but at least it’s working now.
Well, that’s my story.
Jared

Yes, the zooming mechanism does work. As soon as skies are clear, I’ll do a field test.

Re: Eyepiece Story.
Hi Jared. I gave up on taking eyepieces apart back in the late 1970's and early 1980's with Plossls and a few other 4 element designs. The newer 5, 6, and 7 element eyepieces are now too complicated and delicate to risk damage. As to the cleaning the outer glass for eyelash marks and dust, I clean the eye lens (top) and field lens (bottom) occasionally with a liquid cleaner rated for multi-coated glass. Use a very soft touch on the glass and finish cleaning with a fine camel hair brush. The pressured air cleaners are not the best, as even if you hold the can upside down first, you can still get some of the propellant on the glass and then you start all over again. I am very glad that you found your favorite eyepiece Jared and it recovered completely, so all is well.
