Unusual objects ruined exposure.

Hi everyone,

I am not sure where to post this, just so you all know.

I was out tonight doing a long exposure of M42, The Orion Nebula, when an object came into the field of view and ruined the exposure. This happened TWICE within five minutes. I captured both instances.

Here are pictures:

See those lines? They went ZOOMING through the field of view during the exposure. They were FAST. I dont know if they were satellites or meteors entering the atmosphere. I am actually surprised I caught them on camera both times.

So, I got a question for you all. What went through the field of view? Can we tell?

I’m sorry, I’m not following what you’re saying. “Musk?”

Every satellite, plane, helicopter, etc is a starlink satellite these days.

(or a meteor - one of my pet peeves).

As they have regular flashing lights, I would put those down to airplanes. Stacking multiple images should remove the tracks.

The trails are airplanes. (Satellites don’t need anti-collision lights.). The blobby thing at the top is a reflections off the eyepiece.

Thank you all for helping me out, I appreciate it.

It makes sense that they were airplanes, now that I think about it.

Hi Jared,

I was referring to Elon Musk's starlink satellites. All annoying night time objects now get blamed on him as Dan pointed out. Also if I'm not mistaken, you live on the arrival or departures into and out of Boise.
