More of Flame and Horsehead with processing comparison

This time I had a moonless sky, but gust of wind up to 25mph. I only got 9 good 5min subs; the good news was that I able to sort out flats on ASIAir a new flat screen with 5 sheets of A4 gave me great 5sec flats.

This one is processed with DSS with 10 flats in Star Tools 8 alpha with improved HDR; Denoised in Topaz AI then finished in Affinity Photo. To me it has impact but colours are out.

Same data in Pixinsight processed WBP; Rotated; dynamic crop; ABE; DBE; Background Neutralisation; Colour Calibration; EZ Soft Stretch & finally Colour saturation with the same Topaz AI & Affinity.

I asked my wife which one she liked more and PI won out, her words - "it looks more natural". Shae has suffered during my learning processing, her words again "how can it take so long to fiddle around with an image???

I find it easy to spend time fiddling :)

Very nice Tony. I like the first image colors better. They are very close to the correct colors in my opinion. The PI colors are definitely too brown. Not sure why.

Thanks for the input Steve and Jean Yves. Fair comments interesting I’m not sure on the colour in PI it was there from the start most noticeable on the Flame which was this fawn tone.

Like the others, think I like the colors in the first better, although the flame looks a bit red. In terms of fiddling..... are we ever really done? :)

Meant to tell you ages ago, we had a great few days in the New Forest the at the end of August celebrating my son’s birthday. I am a big fan of the forest now and we will be back at some point next year.

Nice website BTW πŸ‘

I am certain you had a great time on your visit to my area Tony. Of course, once you sample all the delights here you are hooked for life :D

Thank you for your lovely comments about my website.

I have just done some cosmetic changes to it this morning. The pink/purple colour wasn't displaying as I would have liked it, so I have kept it more neutral.

Hi Tony. A very nice pair of the Flame and Horsehead nebulae images. I kind of like the first processed version a bit better and I can even see the color on the horse's mane. Thanks for sharing these works with us Tony and congratulations on receiving the TSS APOD Award today.

That's a very fine image Tony. Nice to see the flame and the horsehead together in the same image.

Congratulations on the APOD.

Graeme

Given the variety of opinions, I can feel some more fiddling coming down the road.

Great image for such a paucity of data.

Congrats for the award.

Nice images Tony!

Congratulations on the apod.

The Startools process is much better to me. Of course, as you know, there is an almost infinite number of variables in processing. Maybe even a 2x infinite amount in PI!
I have trouble duplicating the same process twice!

The bottom line is that the more that you fiddle with processes and re-processes, the more that you learn. The learning is also infinite too!
This hobby is so cool because of the many variations and learnings! Definitely a hobby for life! I really wish that I had started earlier than my 60’s, but it’s never too late!

I noticed that you are using Topaz AI. Which product? I recently purchased Denoise and it is amazing.

Very nice images and thanks for the comparison.
