Hello from a very cloudy UK

I’ve been interested in the night sky from a young age and as a teenager I tried and failed to build my own 8” reflector. Now 60 years on I decided to at long last scratch the itch and bought a Skywatcher 127 Mak on a WiFi alt-az mount. Getting on quite well with it, though I do have some questions to ask. Good to be here, thanks for having me.

Hi GB!

Welcome to TSS!

Sounds like a nice and fun scope/mount to use.

We all have questions. There is a lot involved with our hobby. Looking forward to your experiences with your new scope!

Well, that was an ambitious project for a lad. I trust that you and the SW are learning to get along. We are here for you. Just ask your questions. Allow me to recommend that you use the Search in the upper right to find your topics of interest. The backlog here is pretty good and mostly reliable.

The smart mount makes life easier: you spend more time look at things, instead of looking for them! What have you see so far?

The very first objects I saw through the telescope were Jupiter and Saturn. Fortunately I have a reasonably clear view to the south down to about 10 degrees. The moon of course looks spectacular and I’ve searched out a few of the easier doubles like Albireo. It’s Bortle 6-7 here so some of the fainter objects are tricky. M31 is just visible and I have yet to identify Uranus.
