Bullet Lists not working

#1

Post by skybsd »

Hello,
Earlier, I tried to create a bullet list in another thread I started and from I saw from preview, only the first line item gets the bullet list "dot" and the rest do not.

Here is what I did: -
- Created a list of two sentences, one per line
- Hit Carriage Return twice so there were blank lines after the two lines
- Highlighted both lines
- Clicked on "List\" (6th icon from the left in the row of formatting options)
- Selected "Preview"

What I saw is that the first line had a bullet list dot as the first character but the second line did not. I have attached a screenshot of what I am seeing when I tried to create a bullet list for lines 6 - 10 above. Instead what I ended up doing is manually added hyphens at the start of each line to indicate a list.

Is this expected, or am I doing this incorrectly?

Thanks.,

  • Type the sentences out
  • Then highlight each sentence in turn
  • With an individual sentence highlighted click the list icon
  • Do this to each sentence

Hello @Graeme1858
Good to hear from you.., I appreciate the response, thanks..,

Just so I understand however, is that THE WAY to create bulleted list on this forum platform, or is that workflow a workaround?

Thanks again..,

Dunno! But that's how I would do it!

Several of the articles and post that I have written needed bulleted list. It does not work worth a darn. Whatever method you come up with is the right method. It's always a work around.

It’s actually a “feature” of PhpBB. Formatted text created in Word or other text editors uses coding (basically HTML) which can be used by hackers to create all kinds of bad stuff by doing nothing more than copy and paste. PhpBB uses php code which doesn’t recognize HTML (hence the lack of formatting from Word copy and paste.). It’s just another of the problems in the world of computers…..

There is a simplification to the List code:

[ list]First item
[ *]second item
[ *]third item
[ /list]

(Don't put the space in the code (that's only there so the code displays in this post))

Hope that speeds you up!

Regards

One way is selecting the text for the list and clicking the "bulleted list"-icon.
Then selecting the block of text that is one bullet and clicking the "asterisk"-icon.

For ordered lists the same applies, except you have to add the start value to the [ list=] -marker.
Like [ list=1] for numbered list (1. 2. 3. ...) or [ list=a] for a. b. c. ...

The ordered lists work a bit funny way, though. If you put a letter, other than 'a', you get numbered list.
If you put other number than 1, you get bulleted list.
