Does anyone have experience of these:

I don't mind splashing out if they're good but I don't want to pay for the label.

Regards

Graeme

Yes, I own two pair. Don't ask me why. When they are correctly collmated they are very decent astro binoculars.

Cheers

I have a pair though I do not use them a lot but the are fairly good.
If you do get them I would suggest changing out the included holder as it is not up to holding them adequately.

Someone bought me a pair for Christmas. While "adequate", they were severely lacking in build quality.

I swear by Oberwerk binos. I have two pair. Here's the 15x70 model that I use...

To be honest, my go to Astro binoculars are the Oberwerk 11 x 70 Ultra Series. Back when the Ultra Series included the 11 x 70.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments. Build quality is important, the label isn't! These are the "Pro" version, the only differences I can see between these and the non pro is the Nitrogen fill and the price. I started looking for 10x50s but a means of holding them is needed for optimum viewing even at this size so a jump to 70mm aperture is viable.

Hi Graeme.

I have the plain vanilla 15x70's (Around $69.95 U.S. a few years back) from Amazon.

They perform adequately and fortunately they didn't need to be collimated. Otherwise there is a procedure to collimate them by folding back the rubber housing and adjusting the set screws with a screwdriver. (There are various youtube videos showing the process).

I also have the Oberwerk 25x100's on a parallelogram mount, excellent quality and images.

I'm partial to Orion, some of them are still made in Japan.

Have you looked at the APM offerings yet?
Very good quality and stunning views.

I'd buy another pair of the vanilla ones, but the first pair arrived broken from Amazon, and the second was never completely collimated, no matter what I did. If curry gives you indigestion twice in a row, maybe it's best to avoid curry?

They were very light weight though - I could do a fair length of handheld observing - and I thought they had decent optics (if I only used one barrel at a time). Much lighter than my current IF Orions.

If I were to get another pair of vanillas, I'd buy Obies. FWIW.

Those 11x70 ED APOs look perfect. I might struggle to get agreement on the £600 price though!

Think of it as buying a 98mm refractor ;)

Anybody know anything about Astrograph.net?

Difficult to tell where they are in the world from their web site!

It looks like a high-end AP-centric shop.

I have the standard 15X70 Celestron Skymaster. To my surprise optically all right. A nice step beyond a 10X50. Still to be handheld while sitting in a comfortable chair. Mechanical certainly not the best.( but collimating is very easy on this one, the prisms respond very well to the collimating -screws) If you drop it.....just don't.

Well I went for it! APM 11x70 ED APO Binoculars!!!

I picked them up this afternoon. Obviously, told the bloke to check out the Sky Searchers forum to see how I get on with them!

Just sitting here now waiting for the sun to go down.

Apologies for the clouds to all southern England astronomers. It was Gabrielle's fault!

Congratulations Graeme!
I am clouded out as well even though I did not purchase anything, but of course according to meteoblue, above the clouds conditions are almost perfect...

There were gaps in the clouds here earlier but now there are none!

Oh well, it's to be expected!

Did you do some daylight testing?
