Alt-Az Block-Pipe mount

#1

Post by Jones »

Just finished building my latest mount head. Mounted up is my 18 lb. 130mm f/7 triple. Galvanized threaded 1.25" pipe rides nice and smoothly in 1" thick teflon blocks. Tension is set by snugging down on the teflon thru-bolts. Counterweights are 1" hole barbell weights. Sits atop my favorite 2" legged tripod from Celestron- the CPC 1100. Lots of threaded holes on top. Can bolt all kinds of structures on the big flat top.

I am hoping it can handle 25 pound scopes like the 6" f/8 achros. With a lens transplant from APM this could be perfection.

Triple lensed fracs are so yummy when looking at planets.

Here is a previous mount- the wood equatorial.
Uses 2" screw pipe. Built 2003. Has a slot in the base for easy 2-wheeler transport. Worked great for 8" f7 tube assembly.
