I was out last night with my 150mm F5 Achromat cruising through Hercules,Lyra and Cygnus. I remembered a nice one, nicknamed Hole in a cluster. A quick look in Sky Safari told me that its real name is NGC6811. I remembered a neighboring cluster with a hole too. No Name. No name? No. Interstellarum Deepsky Atlas has no name for it. Neither has Stropek. Uranometria has never heared of it, Skysafari doesn't know. Wikisky.org shows it nicely, but no name.

I entered NGC 6811 in the Skysensor and there she was. Here nameless neighbor was there too. Unbelievable! It is such a lovely pair in one field of view! Two clusters, two holes. The song from West Side Story, "There's a place for us'', sprang into my mind. A variation on it then. "There's no name for us".
They obviously are a visual pair. Some years ago someone told me there is a name. But I forgot. And so have all atlases.Who gives this lovely pair a proper name? Like Romeo and Juliet. Ngc6811 Hole in a cluster and ...........

You'll have to check for yourself and meet the beauty of the two. This simple sketch doesn't show it.

Intriguing! I'll have to take a look; might be in my log book, but don't recall off the top of my head.

Found it!
But once again not a real name. Somebody called it in his observers-log the HD84938 group, with the star HD84938 being the brightest star. Not a real name, more a designation. It is just like someone asking me who I am and me answering: Member of my fathers' family!
What the observer and I agree upon is the fact that it looks a bit like a ring.

Hi John. A very nice report from you with the 150mm F5 Achromat telescope and NGC6811. I came up empty too looking for the designation of the other hole in the center open cluster. Thanks for you report, another excellent sketch, and congratulations on winning the TSS VROD Award today.

Stellarium calls The hole in a cluster "Nefertiti's Headpiece" Perhaps the cluster with no name is Akhenaten's headpiece?

Nice sketch and excellent report John. Curious targets indeed and congrats on the VROD. By the way you beat me to the name of your mystery group. It is an asterism from the Deep Sky Hunter's asterism catalogue. It is the HD 184938 group (you dropped the "1" from the catalogue designation). The catalogue lists it at 20' diameter and it certainly is a fine looking grouping.

Here is a screen capture from the C2A planetarium program that shows the two objects you sketched. This is the only planetarium program that I'm aware of that plots the DSH asterisms.

Nice looking pair John. I checked my master list and NGC6811 is there but I have not seeing yet. Thanks for bring it to the attention. Love the sketch! Congrats on VROD!

@Graeme1858 Great idea! Nefertiti and Echnaton! ( Or Akenathen) My version of Stellarium doesn't come up with the name Nefertiti in the search box. Thanks for searching!

Maybe there is no name for the cluster because all records of Akenathen were destroyed in Tutankhamun's time!
