Tonight _might_ be first night in about half a year that there is a chance for little stargazing - at least according to Meteoblue. One hour of nautical twilight, one hour of astro-twilight and one hour of night, Then the clouds.

Mish-mash word combination of observe & opportunity. Someone is being inventive with English and producing Manglish. :D

I suspect a glitch and it meant observing opportunity.

If it's just a mess-up, it's quite big one in a somewhat common smart phone app.
But yes, I guess "observing opportunity" might have been the message.

This might be some sort of conspiracy code. 😆

Does that mean the same as vaarinottamismahdollisuus?
(Wahrnemen + gelegenheit in German)

I was trying to figure out: over...serve...torture...

I bet it means "an incidence or too many people trying to use the server at the same time." Sounds like the kind of word some computer programmers would come up with, where I used to work.....I was not a computer programmer, just a sometimes victim. ;)

Meteolue answered:
Dear Ruud,

Thanks for your enquiry.

We offer Seeing prediction (for astronomical observations) under AIR (in the main navigation bar) or the URL:
https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/forecast/seeing/
for 3 days free of charge and for 7 days with a point+ subscription. More information about point+ is described on https://www.meteoblue.com/en/pointplus.

Details about the Seeing predictions are explained on http://content.meteoblue.com/en/content/view/full/1691
Index 1 and 2 differ in their algorithms .
These seeing routines have actually proven to be inconsistent in some situations, partly because (unlike in the past, not just one, but) several weather models are now included in the forecast. A revision is planned for 2021.

We hope that you can help us with these clarifications, and remain at your disposition for further clarifications.

Yours sincerely

Karl Gutbrod

That link got me to the same page I mentioned, so no news there, but this: "several weather models are now included in the forecast" is probably the key as well as "Seeing 2 gives more weight to the effect of density fluctuations, and is more likely to indicate air "flickering" due to turbulence." explains it to needed depth.

Thanks, Ruud!

Yes Turbo, I figured that must have been the info you'd already found. I hadn't.

I thanked Karl and he wrote back again, saying that they "will try hard to upgrade the [Astronomical Seeing] services, latest in 2022". He wishes us good seeing.

They are a friendly lot, the people at Meteoblue.

Yes. Noted that. Let's see if they end up with single seeing index.
