I have collected 5, 7, 10, 14 and 20mm over the years, and they quickly became my favorite EPs for DSOs. Waiting on delivery for 3.5mm.

I have the 10, 7 and 5. I am done as I use the Ethos 21mm and 13mm to lead up to the XWs. I actually got my XWs for good prices going through Amazon Japan. Took a little bit to receive them, but the prices were good (better than the Agena sale) at the time.

I thought I don't need 3.5mm. Certainly not for the dark site where even 5mm is seldom used in my big scopes. However, during the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction last December I was getting out every evening for quick looks with 80mm frac on a photo tripod and 70 deg FOV of 3.5mm XW would have served me nicely. I have discovered that 62 deg FOV of 3mm Delite and 50 deg FOV of 2.5mm and 4mm SLVs were too narrow for the application.

It is just one excuse, but how many do you need to justify a purchase of good quality EP? It also completes my XW collection

You have to please no one but yourself, and if the 3.5 is what you want - then there you go. Of course, maybe you do need to please the one who has authority to kick you out of the house. So there is that!

Well, it is more like an investment. Consider it my retirement fund.

When retirment approaches it is always better to think of these purchases in the long term so you do not have the expense afterwards.
The 3.5mm is a fine eyepiece.
Another to look at if wanting a wider field is the APM 12.5mm 84° which is as good as the Dokter/ Nobelex version. https://www.eyepiecesetc.com/APM_Hi_FW_ ... 101500.htm

My 3.5mm XW was delivered! ...and brought a week of clouds and rain as expected.

I love how Ricoh/Pentax show their EP design. I wish others (TV, ES) do the same

Also, when they say "Exceptional Image Quality" they are not lying. The XWs are the best EPs for DSOs out of many lines I have tried.

And now looking at those pics I want 30mm and 40mm.

Congratulations on completing your set of the 1 1/4 inch eyepieces!

In my days many years ago as a somewhat professional photographer, I had Pentax equipment in my 35mm setup, and was as big fan of that brand. I always thought their optics were right at the top. From all I can read, they are with their telescope eyepieces as well.

I agree with you about how they display their products. Having that to compare from eyepiece to eyepiece and from brand to brand, would certainly help.
