The whole mission is brilliant! The helicopter part of the mission is a first.

It's being broadcasted here by a cable channel called Newsy, never heard of it, but we have it in our cable lineup :)

A clean feed from mission control, with less PR stuff....

My daughter, wife and I watched Curiosity land back in 2012. My daughter was just over 5 years old. Now? Her and I are sitting here with a beer each checking this out; Mum's still at work :(

Please make it...!!!

All the best,

Great achievement for NASA. I watched til the end of the broadcast. The rotocopter is a test of the technology to be assessed for future missions. One of the problems is that the atmosphere is 1% as dense as earth's so the rotors have to operate at 3,000-5,000 RPMs to achieve liftoff. But it will be great to see the technology horizon advance.

Couldn't agree with you more, Michael. Too bad the rotocopter doesn't have a ground-facing camera, but I could see how that would be an issue with everything involved to make that work. Hopefully the rover can take a picture of it flying!

One thing I'm really looking forward to (again, if it works) is hearing from its two microphones the sounds from another planet. What exactly does a Martian dust devil or even just wind sound like? Probably no crickets at night though

Still, we've literally seen, touched, tasted and smelled Mars from a rover/orbiter point of view, so let our fifth sense get some lovin' too!

Again, hope it all works :D

All the best,

We watched the landing just a few minutes after 9pm GMT yesterday whilst watching Julia Chatterley's Business program on CNN.

She mentioned she had 'goosebumps' as the landing took place - we both joined her in that.

A perfect landing :D
