Lunchtime walk down to the lake. Hardly "great" photography, but it'll be a nice reminiscence when January rolls around. ;)

When I went out to get the mail this afternoon, I saw this dragonfly overhead just outside of the front door. After I came back in, I got my camera and went back out and it was still there above. The dragonfly (Anisoptera) is in the order Odonata, which also includes the damselfly. Some folks in the southern and southeastern US call them snake doctors. They believe that when you see one, you should make a wish. Well, I took my time and tried to frame a good closeup image, hoping I could get the shot before it flew away. Left mouse click on the image to increase magnification and you can see the veins in the wings. My wish came true and I hope that you enjoy this picture.

Hi Jeff. What you imaged is a Click beetle. You can read about them here, at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Click_beetle
I photographed one too outside of our house about 2 years ago on 8/9/2019, although I was in a hurry and my photo isn't as nice as yours:

Thanks for your post and excellent photo Jeff, and the best of regards.

Insect season is here! We have had a bees nest under our caravan all summer. They are white tailed bumble bees which only build a nest of 20ish and bumble bees are kind of nice! So we're happy to live with them, there's only ever 2 or 3 flying about where they go in and out. Today was warm so I left the door open and a big old Queen bee flew in!

Hi all. Here are two new orchid blossoms that we enjoy. Orchids are a tropical and sub tropical flower, and it must have been all of the rain that we have had here in Florida that propagated this new growth. Orchids belong to the Orchidaceae family, and the vanilla that we enjoy comes from the bean pods of the orchid genus Vanilla, which is grown in many tropical regions, although the gourmet chefs prefer the Madagascar variety.

They also live in temperate zones. There are quite a few species that are native to the UK, although not as flamboyant as tropical species.

Hi Mark. I enjoyed our great telephone conversation this afternoon. And, I found that song that goes with your above photos. Also, I will send you that recipe that we talked about. Thanks Mark and the very kindest of blessings and regards to you and to your family.

Good morning.
When we lived in north Queensland I had to check under the car door handle each morning to make sure one of these wasn't hiding there: very messy otherwise! They also don't like being in the washing machine: my wife called me a few times to remove one from the (cleaned) load of nappies! They used to get very dizzy after the spin cycle...
Oh, and always check the toilet bowl before you use it! :character-kermit:
