It turns out I was mistaken. These two were not mates. They are siblings. I observed the parent feeding them this morning. She puts her very long beak all the way down their throat to do so.
This is the last capture I have from this morning. By the time I got home this evening they had flown.

I'm on a weekend vacation to Arches National Park via Moab, Utah right now, but Canyonlands is so close by, I had to go and grab this. 8 shot panorama merged in Photoshop. Camera raw filter for color correction. This is at the Green River Overlook.

I took a couple of photos of our garden for this year before we are about to get another thunderstorm later this afternoon. Sheri and I have both had health issues the last couple of months so this is the best that I could do with my limited energy for outdoor work this year. Here is our tomato plants this year. Rather than one plant with larger tomatoes I put four of the sweet 100 cherry tomato plants in the large patio pot that I had our sweet banana peppers in last year. We have already harvested over two dozen and it looks like there is going to be a lot more on the way.

Next is our four sweet banana peppers and one jalapeno pepper plant on the left side and our herbs (parsley, rosemary, oregano, basil, tarragon, and garlic chives in the center and right side. This is the second year for the chive plant and you can see that it has grown so much that tops of the roots are now above ground. The plant was straight until last week when we had 30 mile an hour winds and thunderstorms from the west for two days.

Well, the thunder storm and winds did come, but at 10pm. Sadly this was followed with a tornado at 2am, so I had a nice surprise this morning. I spent from 7am to 10:30am picking up everything from the front and back yards, sidewalk, and street. I need a vacation soon, but oh wait, I already live here in Florida.

Unusually mild and wet spring does wonders for our garden. Look at the size of this zucchini flower!

I am back from my somewhat eventful trip to my son's wedding in the US Virgin Islands.

The Bad News:
I took my binoculars and made an attempt at seeing more of the southern sky that I have seen before, BUT lights, clouds, and mountains all conspired against me. Night viewing was a loss.

The Good News:
I got my first experience of snorkeling in the ocean. I took a GoPro 11 and put some familiar practices into place. I shot a video at 60fps, then split out a single frame to process. Presto! Out popped my first attempt at underwater photography. I don't think this will be the last. I enjy just about every form of nature photography.

P.S. I should add that I was also able to photograph several species of birds that were new to me.

I hate to disturb them, but it would be risky to have these two getting possessive about the backyard!

I've been removing tons--literally--of ivy and jasmine from the property, part of a plan to landscape with native plants. The thought is to support local critters, but preferably ones that weigh less than 75 lbs or so.
