Joe

Spectacular photo Joe.

You really captured the feel of the scene as only monochrome can do.
Beautiful work!

Pyrocumulus cloud!

The Newell Highway was closed yesterday and today by the giant Duck Creek Pilliga fire. The fire currently covers 120, 000 hectares [35x35km] and has formed it's own weather system. Despite searing temperatures, as I drove through the east side of this system, it was raining.
After this shot was taken I drove through the lurid red light skirting around the eastern side of the weather system and the fire. Brought me back to the fear I felt at the approach of the Canberra Firestorm of January 18, 2003, that destroyed 550 houses plus Mount Stromlo Observatory and parts of the National Zoo that came within 2km of my home. Elvis was so close, I could see the pilots face as he circled.

Playing around with drone photography lately... got this evening shot of downtown Jönköping (city close to where I live). Gotta use that light pollution for something, I guess...

When we had a caravan on the Thames estuary, our view to the north east was over the North Sea.

One of my favourite things to do was to watch the Sun blink into view on the horizon in the morning!

Caught the back end of this supercell on New Years day when driving from Brisbane back to my home in southern NSW. The storm cell was passing over the highway just north of Moree. I stopped 20km up the road to take some photos but also wait for it to pass. i was concerned about the possibility of large hail damaging my car.

I was driving south and the storm moving west to east so it would inevitably pass the highway. However, because it was New Years day, I didn't want to risk the small town motel closing its reception early so I took off planning to drive around the back just after it passed. I misjudged and drove through the receding edge. The wind was very strong. I had to do make small steering corrections as it tried to push my car off the road. The rain was so heavy that even with wipers on fastest setting, I had to slow right down to about 50km/hr.
