OK, same as that other place; 4 solar system one DSO.

I would like a little more balance, maybe DSO widefield, DSO narrow field and nightscape, solar system.

Probably a dozen other ways to do it too.

Either way I'll play,
Steve
Scopes; Meade 16 LX200, AT80LE, plus bunch just sitting around gathering dust
Cameras; Atik 460ex mono, Zwo ASI1600MC-cool, QHY5L-II color and mono

Phill,
You're missing the point mate. The aim of a photo contest in a club or online group is not to win prizes. A wooden spoon only encourages you not to improve. Friendly competitions like this form a basis for comparison and are there for people to participate, gain skills, to strive, improve and learn.

Give it a go!

cheers

The more I think about this, the more I agree with Steve. BTW, it’s 3 solar system, nightscape (which is more like extremely wide-field and not necessarily SolarSystem), and DSOs.

Why don’t we break up DSOs into three different categories.
1) Galaxies and nebulae (both diffuse and planetary)
2) Star clusters (both globular and open)
3) Widefield — 3 deg or greater FOV, to include mosaics (basically bigger than the entirety of the Andromeda galaxy)

I think our forums should be award happy and not award stingy.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Cheers,
JT

In previous posts we have shown that polling, for some strange reason, just does not generate a large sample size. Using the quantity of "thank you's" we feel will be a much more accurate judge of how the general populace feels about an image. Once again, we are still fine-tuning our programs so bear with us as we grow a little.

Cheers,
JT

So does the image have to be taken and processed in the month of the contest? For instance, if I took the image end of September, can it belong in the Oct contest?

Secondly, is there a limit to the # of entries per person/per category?

--Ram

PS: Also unable to thank Bradley's image of Pacman on the forum? Is the judging by thanks or likes?

No it can be taken at any time just be sure to mention when the image was captured. No limit on the number of images you can post but please keep them in separate posts. As a suggestion however, it would be better to just post one image per month as we will only have one winner per category each month.

The 'Thanks" are closed until the contest voting period begins. We will open it at the end of the month.

Due to the lack of participation we are in the process of rethinking a method to highlight our members images.

Hopefully we can figure out something that works.....
