We are currently getting the effects of Storm Arwen.

The north and east coast of the UK are being affected the worst, but we are just on the outer edges of the storm.

Torrential rainfall and strong winds are building up today and are expected to go into tomorrow.

We have been lucky so far through Storm Arwen.

The winds this afternoon have reduced in strength to around 40 mph.

The northern parts of the country are being hit the worst, and sadly there are reports of people being killed by falling trees and collapsed buildings. Winds of up to 98 mph have been responsible for most of the devastation.

We had to go out early this morning in 54 mph winds. Sophia had a meeting to attend, but I didn't want her to go out alone so I drove her there. It was quite local, in the New Forest area, but we had to pick slightly longer routes to avoid the narrower tree-lined roads. We managed to pick a route with wider roads and where the trees were further back from the grass verges, thereby reducing the risk of a tree falling in our path.

It was only a 2-hour long meeting, so I waited for her, and then we arrived back home safely.

Funny, how cold just -11°C (12°F) feels when the temperature changes 10°C (18°F) in just two days.

Here we've had mild weather in the high 60's and low 70's F with sunshine. Don't even have a word for varieties of snow, just snow which almost never occurs. Hail yes, snow - no.
