Pelican Nebula, SHO

Hello All,

Here is the Pelican Nebula, shot from a bortle 8, before I went to darker skies this last weekend. I think it is my best image yet :D It is amazing what a few extra hours will do for your images. For example, usually after applying the initial background extraction and noise reduction, the image looks more noisy after re- auto-stretching. I am assuming it didn't do that this time because there's more data than usual!

I had to cut out a lot of my Oiii because I forget to refocus when it gets cold and when I switch from my ZWO filters to my Oiii Chroma filter.

As always, I am always looking for tips and tricks, or suggestions on what I can do to improve my images. If you have any suggestions for how to make this better, please let me know! I am happy to hear any constructive criticism :)

I think I'm going to print this one!

That's a very pretty version of the Pelican James. Lovely soft touch on the processing.

Was your distribution of hours-on-target for the various filters intentional or just the way things worked out?

I'm new to NB imaging and trying to gain some "intuition" on capturing data for the various filters.

Steve, it was not intentional. I usually just run a plan in APT of 10/10/10 for each filter, and then just run it for as long as I can for the night. I end on an odd number some nights.

Also, I usually end up cutting out like half of the Oiii subs because it is a different brand of filter, and I'm rushing through the focusing to try and get as much acquisition time as possible (always ends up biting me in the end). I also cut at least 10% of my frames because of temp. changes and bad guiding or something. Are you supposed to have the same number of frames for each filter? If so, I did not know that lol

I've seen a lot of Pelican images over the years. Never seem one with so much O3 highlighted. Quite well done.

Thank you so much everyone! I live for these comments and the APOD :D haha

Awesome!! I'm currently inquiring about printing right now :) I'm bummed because my data from the camping trip (bortle 3) did not turn out too good... Bad tracking caused what I think Is walking noise, so even though I was dithering, the scope was slightly drifting, and it is obvious. So I'm glad this one is here to make me feel better! Lol LRGB continues to elude me.

It is incredible how just an extra hour or two will make a world of difference in your astrophotos. Nothing has been easier to process than this pelican!

Wow, this is an excellent image: perfect tones and splendid colours. Super! Effective framing too. The stars are sharp yet dreamy and have beautiful, natural colours. They create a wonderful ambience. You should get a magnificent print from this!

Congrats on the accolade.

James,

This is an excellent image. The color is splendid. If you are interested in printing this, it can be printed on Aluminum. Astro images come out nice on this media. It gives very good contrast.

Congratulations on the APOD.
