Hi
I'm trying to update LX200 firmware. I downloaded Autostar update & open dialogue box.
Connect telescope to PC with USB to RS232 converter.
I get message saying 'Telescope or Autostar seen on Com 5'
Click on 'Update Autostar Software now'
I get message is 'Check Autostar cable or try a different serial port then power cycle Autostar & try again'
Which is odd as says sees it on Com 5 !
I've tried two different USB to 232 converters & two different leads to no avail.
1] Am I correct in thinking for the update to transfer, the Autostar handset should be plugged into the telescope & RS232 lead from PC into telescope as I have connected it ?
Another message said "To upgrade handbox, connect handbox to PC & Hit the upgrade button again & select file from local hard drive"
2]What do they mean by handbox. The Autostar handset ?
If so it has a plug for which there is no matching socket on a PC !
It's designed purely for the HBX socket on the telescope !
Some of these older telescopes came with model specific cable to convert from one end to another, that may be the case here.
Also are you using a brand new USB/ 232 cable? Some come with a disk for the proper drivers and may not work if you let Windows pick a driver on its own.
Some refractors, eyepieces, mounts and related equipment The only culture I have is from yogurt
Since my post I've succeeded in downloading the latest firmware. I didn't realise the Autostar handset needs setting to 'Download'. That did the trick. But many thanks for your reply anyway
