They flew a loop around town. Must be an airshow nearby.

It really is the "Devil Comet"... ;)

I was attempting to see 12P Pons-Brooks the night before last just after sunset. Having worked out its position I started searching: and this is what I found. Guess where the exact position of the comet is? :icon-lol:

BTW, last night I tried again, and the dastardly bat was still hanging around- but this time I managed to see the comet, just above Taurus' foot. Only a faint fuzz in twilight with a hint of a tail in my binos.

Hopefully it will maintain its brightness for a few more days as it gets higher, and the moon begins to rise a bit later.

(BTW, the bat was moving very quickly as it hunted, so I was pleased to get this image, even though it is not as sharp as I would like. Taken with a Tamron 18-300mm zoom at 242mm, ISO 6400 and 1/350 second - and even at that speed the wings are blurred!)

Saw this little guy in our suburban backyard. It is an Eastern Spinebill, but I didn't know that they hovered like a hummingbird. I had never seen one in suburbia before either. Very cool.

The piccie was taken through our kitchen window with a 300mm telephoto, so I am pleased with its reasonable sharpness. (1/350 sec)

(The flower is a "Mexican Sage")
