An observational two-fer

#1

Post by helicon »

Last night the moon was out by 9:45 PM but it didn't stop from me from checking in on the globulars M3 and M13 (both well seen). For M3, the sky was not quite dark. 20 minutes later and I had an excellent view of M13 at 135x and 220x in the Dob. Achieved complete resolution at the higher powers.

Getting up at 4:30 I checked out clusters in Cassiopeia, Cygnus, M27, M56 and NGC 6826 (the Blinking planetary) and a few other objects including the Double Cluster, which was rising. By 5:10 the sky was lightening, so it was back inside for a morning espresso.

An evening session followed by a morning session! That's good going Michael.

The Blinking Planetary is a new one on me.

Thanks all. With regard to getting up early it's not that hard if folks are setting off cherry bombs at night down in the urban area below where I live. About every half hour you hear one of these explosions - BOOM! It's been going on for a couple of weeks, part of the general unrest I suppose.

There was an article recently that police in major cities (Boston, NYC, etc.) have responded to significantly more fireworks calls than last year - and that was in MAY. I want to say the number was over 10,000x more in some places, but I could be wrong about that.
