Re: This Guy Must Really Like His 6" F8 Scope To Shake
Wow. That mount looks suspiciously like my old CG4, and the biggest thing I put on that is my 80mm f/ 15. Even that has a teeny bit of shake before it settles... That just pains me to look at!

Re: This Guy Must Really Like His 6" F8 Scope To Shake
That was the original CG -5 on its flimsy aluminium tripod using the Vixen Skysensor goto system (first one commercially available)
No worries about shake as top speed would have the mount do a 180° slew in about 15 minutes
They were not fast.

Well, it's not collapsing in the pic, but I wonder what the load rating is on that tripod. Looks rather spindly to me. Almost looks like the counterweights alone would max it out. Meh, maybe I'm just a Nervous Nelly.

Re: This Guy Must Really Like His 6" F8 Scope To Shake
It looks like the tripods is tightened up quite well. I imagine it would hum like a guitar string if tapped.
The mount was capable of 25lb but the tripod was barely adequate for that.
Celestron received a huge backlash about it and within a few months the now standard 2" stainless steel tripod was available.

Re: This Guy Must Really Like His 6" F8 Scope To Shake
Back about 19 years ago or so, I bought a CR-150HD achromatic refractor on that same mount. The refractor was excellent for a 150mm f/ 8 achro . The mount was terribly shaky, but usable in calm conditions. I sold the mount and tripod on AM after less than two years, and bought an Atlas EQ from Orion. That Atlas mount was perfect for the scope. I kept it until early 2019, when I sold the scope, then the mount. Replaced with a ES 152 F/ 8 apo in CF tube on a Losmandy G11. Better all around.
Double and multiple star observer. Over 3,500 unique pairs logged.

Most likely more stable than the strangely shaped factory adapter that is only held by one screw.

Looking at it again, it may be two electric conduit clips bolted together.
If it holds everything tightly I would say job done.
