Gear ratios?
So I have a 3.3 RPM synchronous motor for my barn door tracker. Using gears, what would I need to get the RPM down to 1?
Thankyou
Carl

Good luck, be curious as to how all this works for you!

Re: Gear ratios?
I think I've worked it out...
For example, my motor is 3.3RPM
If the cog on the motor has 24 teeth and the other cog has 80 teeth I divide 80 by 24 which gives 3.3.
Divide the motor rpm which is 3.3 by the cogs division which is also 3.3 that gives an answer of 1, the rpm I need for my tracker.
Am I right in this?

I'm still trying to find a motor that I can use with my so basic electronic skills, or lack thereof
Good luck!

I did think the cogs were backwards! I'm no electronic whiz either. The motor I'm using I got from an old Christmas decoration.....it was a reindeer that lights up and nods its head slowlyThefatkitty wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 11:25 am Looks good to me, and I think I had it backwards for which gear goes where... it's 6AM here, first cup of coffee... Your math skills are significantly better than mine as well

Yeah, if I did the gears there'd be some impressive star trails That is absolutely brilliant where you got the motor from, it never would have dawned on me! We have this Scooby-Doo dressed as Santa; we got it when my daughter was five. It waves a paw or something like that, and we haven't had it out in a few years. Wonder what I'll be doing tonight?maceemiller wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 11:37 am I did think the cogs were backwards! I'm no electronic whiz either. Thanks again for the idea, Carl!
