Bought a new telescope yesterday, it's for Linda, my wife and me.
It is an Orion SkyQuest XX12g GoTo Truss tube Dobsonian telescope.
Can't wait until it arrives in March.
Watched a couple videos on YouTube of the SkyQuest's XX16g and the XX12g
telescopes. The goto system is a "closed system," so it can be moved by hand
and not lose the alignment setup.

Congrats. I noticed you also listed having an LX850-mounted 12" F/8 scope. I hope you will share with us your experience in comparing the XX12g to that, in terms of any/all measures of performance and convenience.

Hello Kip. Although I usually bring out the smaller 6" refractor for DSO viewing, if I am chasing tougher targets and I can get help carrying out my XT12i scope, it is the best choice. I know that you and Linda are going to just love your new XX12g telescope. Thanks for your new equipment report Kip, and the best of wishes for many clear night skies.

Hi again Kip. I forgot to add that you should also get the optional shroud cover that goes around the truss supports. This keeps other lights from reflecting onto your view and also keeps bugs and dust off of your optics. I hope this helps Kip, and the best of wishes on your new telescope.

Nice score!
As Marshall mentioned, a shroud is an excellent, some might say essential, piece of accessory. But if either of you is handy sewing, one
can be made really easily from any good, sturdy dark fabric. I made mine for the 10" Lightbridge I had and it worked great!
Best of luck and clear skies for your new purchase.
Yes, Linda and I are excited and waiting for Clear Skies here in Oregon, USA. We are also waiting for Orion to catch
up with their orders for scopes. Right now we are a month or maybe 6 weeks before the telescope ships.
I'm already thinking about making a comparison between Meade's 12" f/8 and Orion's 12" f/4.7 mirrors.
I believe now, that Orion's mirror is the best for observing, because it's faster?
I bought the shroud and the cases for when we go out star partying in the summer.
I could be taking exposures with the Meade and observing through the Orion Dobsonian.

Yes, Linda made a bag for a LX-200 tripod. It was custom by deluxe, blue with with padding, and a zipper. Big shoulder straps too.
