Hi
I’ve been told I need an equation mount for dso photography and I’ve got my eye on a
Celestron advanced gt mount, is this a decent mount ?, or should I keep looking ?
Are you looking at a used one? If you purchased it new, it would be the Advanced VX mount now.
If it is a used Advanced GT mount, I would keep looking. I know it's been a while since they stopped making them, so a used one will be at least a couple of years old (I'm not certain on that though), and they are already entry level mounts... Others might have a different opinion.
The advanced VX mount is the minimum you would want to get for astrophotography, IF you are using a light-weight telescope like a short refractor.
Are you using a camera + lens or a telescope? if you are going to use a telescope, have you decided on what you will be using yet?

I have the Advanced GT mount that came with the C6N I purchased late in 2012. It continues to perform well for me for Astrophotography. If I were buying now, I would go with something current. The ASGT has a lot of the same features as the AVX, but is no longer in production, so would be difficult to get support for if you needed that.
I hear what your saying but I just don’t have the funds to buy the new vx mount
I can get the gt mount for £300 and I can’t find anything as solid for that price

If that's the best you can do, then that's the best you can do What scope are you putting on it?

That's not a terrible price. If the unit has been well cared for. It should give you several years of good service.
I'd tear it down and do a home hypertune on it. Polish and burnish all mating surfaces and replace the factory tree sap with some superlube or equivalent.
I owned one for a few years before buying the CGX. A very capable mount if you take your time to get it set up properly.
Good Luck!
