I know I need to do a ton of stuff still in order to get great pictures, but I just want to take it one step at a time.
Thanks!
These are two very different tasks! I wish I could just 'press a button' to take an image, but it's just not that simple.do a live view on my laptop and press a button to take a picture

There's a free trial then purchase if you like it (very inexpensive!).
It works with both Nikon and Canon DSLR's
Maybe I am a bit biased but Sequence Generator Pro is the best for me. Especially when it comes to sequence automation.APT is by far the best image acquisition

It's only 27CAD, you've spent more on beer and SkySafari Pro. The next closest in cost is Backyard EOS / Nikon and it's 65CAD. That's over twice as much for only about two-thirds of the same features. APT is by far the best image acquisition, telescope control, focuser and filter wheel control, plate solver, weather predictor, focusing mask, histogram viewer, plus many other features I've not listed you're going to find at that price.
Honestly what do you gotta lose,
JT
And for you Taxman that's only $20.75 US.
