IC 1470 (SH2-156) Region

#1

Post by jthommes »

This image field is the IC 1470 region. This is a star forming region within a large molecular cloud. In addition to IC 1470, there are five other separate emission regions within this cloud (BFS 14, 15, 16, 17, 18). The BFS catalog is by Blitz, Fich, and Stark in a paper titled "HII Regions Not In The Sharpless Catalog" - 65 objects.

The field has several open clusters of which NGC 7510 is the most well known. The large emission area on the left of the full size un-cropped image is Sh2-157 (the Lobster Claw). This region is just west of the Bubble Nebula. This larger image field is mostly stars with these smaller objects spread around the busy star field.

Image and details are accessed from the link below. The annotated image can be linked from the main image page but I have also provided a link below for convenience. The image shown below on this post is a crop of IC 1470 and BFS 17, BFS 18. The full size image (1.82 arcsec/pix) can be accessed from the image webpage.

Image is based on data taken were from Ha, Lum, R G B filter exposures.
