solution for mounting guide tube and guide camera parallel to the camera

#1

Post by Rosssiiii »

Hello :)

I'm struggling to figure out how I can mount the guide tube next to the camera, so far i bought these products:

https://it.aliexpress.com/item/10050058 ... pt=glo2ita

https://it.aliexpress.com/item/10050075 ... pt=glo2ita (150mm version)

but if i try to use both to install the camera on the star adventurer GTI i go to have that situation:

as you can see in this case the camera is too much on the right and with the components that i have i don't know how to install the L bracket on the dovetail plate that i have !

i have followed that youtube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcxtdD5 ... ex=4&t=25s

i have tried to use that adapter :

https://it.aliexpress.com/item/10050063 ... pt=glo2ita

I inserted it into the L-bracket and into the camera and then with another screw I tried to connect it to the dovetail plate, but it doesn't work, the dovetail plate remains too loose and if I screw it harder I only exert pressure on the camera's thread

Hello Rosssiii

Am I right in thinking that you have a screw through the dovetail plate into the L bracket and another screw through the L bracket into the camera? And you're planning on fixing the guide camera onto the vertical section of the L bracket.

If the screw into the base of the camera is too long to tighten, would it be possible to put a spacer between the camera base and the L bracket?

If you can't tighten the dovetail plate in the mount declination saddle then you will need a wider one.

Hello :)

yes i have used that kind of product:

Now i think that i have solved the issue, here is the reason that before i don't understand but watching with more calm today looks like i have solved:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbgyMm- ... iQ&index=1
at least it is very stable as it should be, but still i ask you a confirmation if the gap that there is between the L mount (camera) and the vixen bar is not an issue ?

is good like that or can give me some issue with :

- the GOTO of the mount when i try to center the subject (ok when i will have the guide camera i will not use the mount goto, but is a curiosity because i could test that solution to see if is stable even if i don't have the guide camera) ?
- with asiair goto when i try to center the subject to follow ?
- or if give me problems with the tracking ?

Looks like it would be a bit unstable. With such a small surface area of contact, vibrations will easily start and take ages to die away, if at all if you are tracking.

Would it be possible to find a way of fixing the camera directly to the dovetail plate without using the L plate? That would give you a more stability.

Hello :)
to fix the camera directly over the dovetail plate i should change the home position over the mount and install on one side the dovetail plate the camera and to the other side the guide camera and balance it much as possible, what do you think about that ? my vixen bar is 150mm long.

or if i want still use the L plate solution i should buy a much longer screw like that:

to screw the camera to the L-bracket and the Vixen bar with a single screw.

That would work, if, the screw is not too long to tighten.

Would this arrangement ensure a greater area of surface contact to avoid vibrations?

yes it should, because as you can see here:

the L bracket would rest directly on the vixen bar with much surface contact
