I was wanting to take out a scope too and check out Mars while we still have a chance
but when I stepped outside around 6pm a cold blast about blew me back inside.
So I thought oh well. Mabey tomorrow.
Back to the TV and some hot coffee.

Does wind mess up solar as bad as it messes up night time observing?

I think so, especially if the scope isn't steady.
Very strong gusts this afternoon.

Very high winds here too. Speaking of solar, I keep my rig inside near a large window facing south. I usually check out the sun several times a day. Of course no problem with the wind or cold. I only use 30 or 40 power and the views are excellent through the window.
Just today in H-Alpha there many prominces and filaments in very good detail. Not too many sunspots in white light but there were several toward one edge where there were none yesterday. I assume they are starting to rotate back around from a couple weeks ago when they were spread all across the equator.

After getting some views of Mars and Jupiter Tuesday morning we've got clouds and five days of rain in the forecast (e.g. atmospheric river like they like to say these days) so I won't be out until Feb 5th or so with the XLT

I also have to fix the twilight II mount with the parts that Explore Scientific sent to me for free. Then we'll have first light with the AR152 at this new place. The parts are lightly used and the best they could do since the Twilight II is no longer being sold and technically they are not supporting it anymore. Time marches onward I suppose.

After several weeks of snow and bone chilling cold here we finally got a decent
evening. Very clear skies and fairly warm. Took out the 6" frac and checked out Mars
at 300 power and saw something I've never seen before. Syrtis Major in all it's glory.
Shimmery at times but when the atmosphere
steadied it was a nice bluish color against
the brownish red background of Mars.
And a nice white ice cap. Been wanting to see this before the planet gets too small.
It's quickly getting smaller now.
Cloudy here now with lots of rain on the way
Oh well. Let er rip. At least I met my goal of seeing Syrtis Major and my TV is working
well.

No solar here in southern Ohio either Mike.
Our skies look identical.
I can only describe the weather conditions here as cold, damp, windy, cloudy, and just
plain miserable as they say. And a freezing rain has just started. Any type of observing
is only a pipe dream. Oh well. It's not our fault
we were born here. I suppose we could have moved to Arizona.

I will pass on Arizona lol. At some point tonight we are supposed to get up to two tenths of an inch of ice. That will make things interesting in the morning
