Dark Oxygen (natural oxygen produced without photosynthesis)

Post by AntennaGuy »

De-binding oxygen without photosynthesis, occurring in nature. Apparently tied to crusty rocks deep in the oceans.
Maybe this mechanism can provide oxygen for life on other worlds (and in some places, on ours).

Settled science again coming back at us and once again from the oceans depths, reminisant of those deep sea black smokers lol,

Those changed the game and allowed the possibility for under sea life on frozen planets & moons with internal oceans.

This newly discovered state of natural oxygen creation removes most of the limits self imposed by science regarding the availibility of naturally occuring oxygen in the universe.

Biggest thing since barred galaxies imho if true...

That's an interesting read AG.

Let's hope that "the hunt for hard data continues, fueled by the hope of expanding our understanding of life – both here and possibly on other worlds" is allowed to continue and not become swamped by the hunt for wealth from the mining operations.

Good points Aaron about the possibilities of life under the ice of frozen oceans.

Interesting article.

The rocky planet pssibilities lol,

Just going over this oxygen thing though and really for a gas thats suppose to be the most plentiful after hydrogen and helium, oxygen seems to hide itself very well in the protoplanetary solar disk and even mercury being so close to the solar wind still holds a crustal evaporation level of 42 percent of mercurys overall total combined gasses. This crustal ori of oxygen in mercurys atmosphere is a common belief though I am still searching for something difinitive as to an actual study.

Just for note Mercurys atmosphere is 100 trillion times thinner than Earths.

Finding this all very interesting, how a solar system deals with its oxygen and how much we have yet to learn here being its what we breath and its as common a gas that there is.

Oxygen is pretty reactive and frankly rather dangerous. You know, if I didn't have to breathe it, I'm pretty sure I would do my best to avoid it!
