SkyProdigy 6 SCT (built-in Starsense) - Handset Issues?

#1

Post by brenski »

Hi I've had my Skyprodigy 6 SCT (with built-in starsense) around two months. It's a second user purchase from ENS Optical. Last night (only second time of using due to light summer skies), the hand controller worked for half an hour and the suddenly ceased to function. If I touch the cable slightly in the socket on the mount the handset briefly lights up, but not long enough to do anything,

I've contacted the retailer, but as they are closed weekends, just wondered if anyone knew if this is likely handset or mount issue?

It sounds like a cable-to-connector problem. It doesn't sound like a problem with the socket that's part of the mount. Just my two cents.

Cheers,

Sounds like a comms issue at the connector.

If it's under warranty then it should be covered. If not then you need to immobilise the connection in some way.

When I used to use USB extension leads I would put lolly pop sticks either side of the connection and zip tie them into place. I still zip tie the cables coming off the camera, focuser and filter wheel so that they can't move at the point of the connection when the telescope slews.

Can you fix the cable at a position adjacent to the connection so that when you move the hand controller about there is no movement at the connection?

it appears that the handset and its cable are fine - i've tried handset in Aux port and it works fine.

therefore it's the HC (handset port) (socket) on the mount that's not working. can it be fixed?

We have a product in the US called electronic cleaner. I would start with that just to make sure it's not a dirty contact. I'm sure you have something in the UK I just don't know if it's called the same thing.
