Moon 21/04/24

Here's the 96% illuminated Moon from Sunday Night.

It's the Luminance capture of a 300 frame SER video using the recently released SharpCap 4.1. Did a few runs of 300 x L, 100 x each RGB in Mono16 SER files. The ROI was about 3500 x 3500. The frame rate struggled to stay in double figures! SharpCap 4.0 kept freezing on me but the new release 4.1 worked very well. If it had an auto filter offset focus adjustment it would be perfect!

The video frames were stacked in AS3 and saved as .fit files. I've not been able to combine the LRGB .fit files in Pixinsight, apparently they're not the same size! Looks like I need additional tuition!

So this is the Luminance capture only. A not quite full Moon shows the crater rays well and a few crater shadows on the Western limb.

Hi Graeme,

A great image of the Moon.

Have you tried the Lunar live stacking tool in 4.1? It would be interesting to see the difference between the processed and live stacked images.

On your filter offset problem, could you use SharpCap's Sequencer to create a sequence to take care of the whole capture process. It has a sequence command to apply an offset to the focus. Just thinking out loud, as I don't have a filter wheel and hence not sure how it all works :icon-smile:

Have fun.

Cheers Pete

I've seen the live stacking tool but not yet played with it.

To be fair, I haven't looked at the SharpCap Sequencer either yet. But I will have a look. I have the off set figures that NINA calculated for me.

As for the image dimensions combine issue, perhaps I should use my ASI294MC Pro for Lunar, then the problem would go away!

Graeme

Nice Graeme, that really came out well!! A question, does Pixinsight handle TIFF files? Just tossing it out there; I really don't know!

Regardless, some very nice detail there. I need to update my Sharpcap to 4.1; @Xio1996 Pete has me all ramped up about this, I really want to try the live stacking.

And you've really got to try the SC filter on the Moon as well! You have great detail there, the SC would enhance it that much more, especially with a UV/IR cut behind it. Just expect a green Moon :D

Cheers,
Mark

It does Mark.

You get a message telling you that .tif files and .fit files are not as good as .xisf files but it handles them well.
