New Image: Markarian's chain. Tight and wide shots

#1

Post by Petrol »

I took the tight shot with a Williams Optics Megrez 72FD which is about 15 years old
The wide shot is with a Samyang 135mm lens. I wondered how many galaxies I could get.
I don't tend to image galaxies due to light pollution but it was fun having a go.

Great images Pete. Have you ran it through any annotation software like the AnnoteImage script in PixInsight? You will be blown away to learn how many of those "stars" are actually galaxies!

Great idea! looks to me like there's 255 galaxies 8-) I'm making a documentary (for fun) explaining what's in the night sky and how I image. Think I'll add that snippet of info into the script

Beautiful images Pete! The two views are nice to see. The 'tight' shows the detain in the chain; the wide show context.

Thanks for the vote, it's very much appreciated. I went to a "dark site" in my RV to take these images which were taken over 2 nights. I was suprised how well the old Williams Optics Mergrez 72FD performed and it just goes to show, you don't have to spend mega bucks on a scope to get a half decent image. The wide shot, taken with a rokinon / samyang 135 f2 is a 400 bucks camera lens! As I mentioned in the post, I'm making a documentary which explains in very basic details, what's in the night sky and how I take the images. I'll post up the video when it's finished.
Again thank you,
Clear skies
