Busy Week of Outreach!

#1

Post by Unitron48 »

Our Culpeper group has had a busy week of outreach. It started out with our entertaining and educating over two hundred folks at the Culpeper County Library in support of the library's solar eclipse event on 8 April. On Saturday, 13 April, we hosted a viewing session for six of the individuals I worked with before I retired.

Last night, 14 April, was also pretty special. A local symphony orchestra was holding an "Out of this World" concert devoted to space music. It included sound tracks from Star Trek, Star Wars, 2001 Space Odyssey, and Apollo 13. They requested we provide a viewing opportunity for the attendees. Unfortunately the concert was scheduled for 6:30 pm to 8 pm, providing limited viewing targets. We did provide solar and lunar viewing, which for most proved to be an exciting and rare opportunity!

Finally, on 16 April we are scheduled to support STEM night at one of the local elementary schools. Busy, busy, busy!!

Thanks, Jerry! You need to visit Morning Calm Observatory. Don has his 12 inch Meade SCT loaded on a Losmandy G-11T with all kinds of AP goodies!

Come on back and visit us sometime!!

I wish I had been there for all that; sounds like a good time! Especially the "Out of this World" concert.

Good luck with the STEM outreach as well! :D

One final addition to this thread. We completed a very successful session in support of STEM night at AG Richardson Elementary School on 16 April. We set up a table with lots of information, and a scope (my Brandon 94 on a Losmandy AZ8) outside for Solar and Lunar observing. The Sun cooperated with lots of solar sunspot activity! Overall we had about 35 adults and kids check out the sights!
