The whip is usually made a braided willow bark not sticks and they are fairly soft.
I am not sure who that article was written by but I grew up with this tradition and was never put in pain ever!
At most I would have been soaked from water but as I got older I kept water guns handy ;)

The sky is falling (we expect occasional hail, but not batteries).

In Texas, we have laws against littering. But I suppose the folks on the ISS consider themselves to be above them.

Just checked the weather. After a few days of sunshine of partial cloud, Monday for the eclipse (partial here) is overcast with 70% chance of rain. Then back to a mix of sun and clouds.
