A bit of the Violet / Blues...
Some of you may know I have a liking for tinkering with coloured planetary wratten and other colour based bandpasses but I also collect the different variations / colours and in particular the vintage glass when and if I can find it...
Tonight I was lucky and found a nice Violet vintage Orion and was just glad to have discoved it and for a good price, though when I clicked on the discription my heart sank a little.
It made me wonder if I knew the sellers father and then if this was a prized possesion of his how much more lucky was I to be recieving it.
All the thoughts this immediatly brought to mind and then some over this simple purchase kind of gave me a bit of the Blues for real.
Thanking him here tonight...

Re: A bit of the Violet / Blues...
Well,
My new to me and old orion #47 violet filter has arrived and is already sparking new light in my observatory...
Looks as though a #15 yellow being a high pass filter blocks the low pass of this particular 47 but not the emerging red light or the Ir beyond 700 and these two combined should make and excellent terrestrial 721nm Ir pass filter indeed. And well more exotic than the 720 I already own I'll bet...
Of the 5 #47 blue/violet filters I have now this one is very unique in that it is the highest frequency and lowest transparency of the lot.
Another cool option when imaging with a solar wedge is to add to this filter stack an Ir uv cut and now we are at narrowband 721nm and in the H2o region of the solar spectrum, my next solar imaging session will show what is to be seen there whatever details might be, or not.
Just thought to share the ongoing solar mixology expaditionary findings with all of you and be sure Everyone to check our great solar imaging section here onTSS for ongoing results.
Here's a short read on light and colour Opticks for those of you who are into that sort of thing,
Enjoy!

Me too and you are welcome Graeme, the stack looked freaky deaky held up to the eye while scanning the very sunlit back garden today.Graeme1858 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 7:38 am I look forward to seeing the results of your Orion #47.

Tree trunks where white, leaves were deep red and the sky was a dark navy blue...
Not too bad considering I cant see very far into the infrared I guess
