SkySafari 7 Pro

#1

Post by Flyhigh7 »

I'm new to SkySafari and just purchased version 7 Pro. I was playing around with it and I noticed the default for showing Comets and Satellites was turned off. I turned them on and realized why they were turned off. They are off because the data base contains so many comets and satellites that it makes the sky chart so cluttered with those objects when you turn either on that the sky chart is almost useless. So I turned them both off but there are a few satellites I'd like to track such as the Space Station, Hubble Space Telescope, and the James Webb Space Telescope. I'd also like to track a few individual comets when they are close to being viewable.

So: Is there a way to individually add a specific Comet or a specific Satellite object to the Sky chart without turning on every satellite and comet in the data base?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure how big the difference between 6Pro and 7Pro is.
In 6 I go into settings, solar system, right at the bottom of the page under 'brightness and size' adjust the magnitude limit and see if that helps.
I set mine in accordance with what I can see through my scope.
Just try it out and see.
Hopefully you have something similar on 7Pro.
Eyeballs, binoculars, sketch box, Scopes n stuff.

Thanks KingClinton: It looks like this works or there are just very few Comets and Satellites above me now.

To keep my screen as uncluttered as possible, I just go to the search function and search for the individual object I'm curious about and have it display that single item. This will keep the item visible until you quit the program and then it goes away next time you start it up.

This is even better. Thanks.

Don't see the James Webb Space Telescope there.

How often do you update the Skysafari data base?

As often as I remember, which is about once per month.

A good idea is to go onto the Skysafari webpage and download the user manual.
It explains every function and setting available.
Have a read through it and try out different settings until you find your preferred setup.
Have fun!

I am thinking about buying Sky Safari 7 pro, but need to get a tablet that will handle it well. Looking at a Samsung Tab 8 running Android 10 or 11 and all sorts of memory. Hate to hijack the thread but i am very tech challanged, i assume this is more then enough tablet?
