Which Messier catalog objects in 2-degree field of view?

#1

Post by EmeraldHillsSkies »

Hello Sky Searchers. I'm going to try to tackle a Messier Marathon this Saturday night. Would anyone happen to have a resource (or an experienced mind) that would help me determine which Messier objects might be captured in the same field of view -- if my field of view is roughly two degrees wide by one degree high (RASA 11 with a ZWO ASI2600MC Pro)? For example,...

(Note: the target in parentheses following the Messier objects might help for targeting/framing)

M8, M21, M20 (HD 313747)
M17, M18 (TYC 06265-2495 1)
M31, M32, M110 (M31)
M42, M43 (M42)
M46, M47 (TYC 05409-2667 1)
M59, M60 (Thanks Seigell! M59)
M65, M66 (HIP 55262)
M72, M73 (HD 358043)
M81, M82 (Thanks Graeme! TYC 04383-0198 1)
M84, M86, M87 (NGC4435)
M88, M89, M90, M91 (PGC 41907)
M95, M96, M105 (Thanks Seigell! TYC 00849-0623 1)
M97, M108 (M97)
M99, M100 (HIP 60198)

Any others?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Doug

M81 M82 off the top of my head!

Sounds like an excellent opportunity for a go at the Sky Searchers Messier Challenge

Have fun and let us know how you got on.

Seigell, thanks! I don't have a rotator - so I don't think I can *quite* squeeze M58, M59, and M60 in my FOV, but I *can* at least fit M59 and M60. Thanks again.
Added M105. Not sure why I hadn't included that. Good catch!!!

While you're in the Virgo Cluster, there's M89 and M90 and M58 if you can squeeze it in.

Also M88 and M91.

Thanks Graeme. We could squeeze toward the M58 side of things, but we currently were already squeezing in M88, M89, M90, and M91. I don't think we can do M58 with all those.
