Sunday twilight Moon

#1

Post by Thefatkitty »

Hey all, hope your weekend was good :D

Been a cold and cloudy one here. I spent the weekend cleaning out the basement, something I've been meaning to do for some time. Finished that this afternoon, and even though it was and still is -11C (12F) outside, I thought to have a BBQ and a few beers.

I was surprised at 5PM it was somewhat clear outside, and the Moon was rising in the east. I fired up the BBQ and took some cell phone pics of the rising Moon. That's my Stealth Hawk HDTV antenna off to the left.

While the coals were going, I thought to go get my "Towatron" and Canon 550D from the basement. This scope I made from the objective from a Tasco (Towa) 55 VTE 60mm with a click-stop focuser in a cut-down Celestron 60mm tube.
Makes for a fun achromatic f/7 60mm scope that weighs in at under 3 lbs; great G&G.

I took a few shots at different exposures; this one at ISO 800 and 1/640th sec worked out the best.

And so did the steak!! :D

After dinner I was hoping to go out for a bit even in the cold, but it's warmed up a bit and now the clouds are back. Of course. Well, at least I got some time, even if it was only the twilight hours. These days, I'll take it where I can get it!

Hope you're having better luck and all the best,
Mark

Yes, sounds like a perfect evening.

A BBQ is a great idea to accompany astro viewing at -11°C!
