One of the things that really got me into astronomy proper was listening to an early Universe Today podcast (they were web page sound bites back then!) about the Kuiper Belt and with it the realisation that the solar system was a lot more interesting than just eight planets orbiting the Sun.
This is another example. (with an amusing twist!)

Galaxies are big and far away, but most things in our solar system are small - but also far away.
