These weather systems have different names around the world but are the same thing.
Cyclone, Hurricane, Typhoon.

Yeah, I know, all low pressure events. So was the big West Coast thingy referred to as a cyclone because it came off the Pacific?

The Gulf of Mexico events come off the Atlantic and are referred to as Hurricanes.
