I tried upping my usual 180s subs with the Samyang 135 f2 to 300s. Can't say I noticed any difference other than more frames had satellite trails.

That's a very nice picture! This lens has a certain "must have one" vibe.....
Just wondering, do you reduce the stars a littlebit when processing or is this as it is?

greetings, Rob

Hi Rob. I don't do much with the stars - After background extraction, I clone the image and stretch it using the defaults in MaskStretch. Then I Use StarX to remove the stars with Screening. I then take the generated star image and apply HT to it twice with Midtones set to 0.55 - this reduces the stars by a very small amount. The starless image is edited seperately and I use pixel math to combine them.
Hope that answers your question but feel free to ask if you need any more information.

Thanks Pete,

I was just wondering about the lens but very helpfull answer you gave. Learned something from it! Never used MaskStretch but great tool and the HT trick on the stars is also new to me. So many ways to Rome wright?!

Looking forward to your next image

Rob, this is the stacked image with background extraction and auto stretch using screen transfer function. No other processing so it should give you an idea what the lens is delivering.

This is the rig. I bought a thinkable creations cradle to mount the lens and attach the EAF. I'm not a fan of 3d printed parts because they are flimsy at best. It was all I could find so I strengthened it with pre preg carbon fiber.

Image

At the back of the lens I removed the bayonet fitting and used an m42 adapter. This was easy to fit and should reduce flex and tilt. Behind that is a ZWO filter holder to give approximately the right back focus.

Image

Hope that helps, any more Q's just ask
