My DIY solar filter
With a coming eclipse, many like to prepare solar filters.
Here's the solar filter I made.
I used a glare-shield that bayonet-mounts on the end of the camera's telephoto lens.
To it, attached two aluminum plates with a pair of angle brackets.
Sandwiched between the two Al plates is a sheet of mylar.
Easily disconnected from the lens during the minutes of totality, then reattached after.
Taken using a Nikon D80 at 300mm using a 70-300mm telephoto lens, 1/500sec, F11, ISO200:
Agreed that the camera seems old but it's "old faithful".
I may make a similar one for my Canon 6D, but it may be on "wide-angle" duty for next October's annular.
Or maybe I'll do things the other way around...
