Moved to mono

I say moved to mono I still have my zwo533mc but I’ve picked up an Atik 490 EX for a good price, I already had a zwo mini filter wheel and LRGB and s11 Astronomik filters so purchased ha and 03 filters , currently set up my 350mm fl frac , not the best combination , around 800mm fl would be the sweet spot, now awaiting the clouds to depart in the uk weather has been really poor for a while with the odd imaging window but hopefully I will soon have some mono data I’ve configured APT to do an imaging loop of 3xL 1xHa 1xS11 1x O111 with a dither after L images , never used an Atik before but the first noticeable thing is compared to a zwo is how much noisier the fan is , something I need to see if I can reduce as my pier is in the middle of the garden and is quite noticeable, pity they didn’t think to address that , where as zwo use an off the shelf pc fan that’s super silent compared to atik so bear that in mind if you ever consider getting an Atik .

Hi Dave. I like the color cameras for planetary imaging but the monochrome cameras will give more contrast and details in solar white light and when used with color filters and HaRGB filters (assigned to color channels) for DSO work. Thanks for your new camera report Dave and the best of wishes on your first light session.
