Twice M44, a year apart

On april 13 I sketched M44 as seen through the RACI finder of my telescope, without the cross hairs though.

Roughly one year before I sketched it through my 120mm ED refractor.
Just to give an impression of the difference between the two instruments I hereby show the previous sketch again. I mirror inverted it for the same rough orientation.

From left to right, top to bottom:
- Sketch as seen through 8X50 finder
- Sketch through 120 mm refractor on april 20 2023. Magnification 30X. Mirror inverted. In reality there were definitely more stars:-)

Refractors in frequency of use : *SW Evostar 120ED F/7.5 (all round ), * Vixen 102ED F/9 (vintage), both on Vixen GPDX.
GrabnGo on Alt/AZ : *SW Startravel 102 F/5 refractor( widefield, Sun, push-to), *OMC140 Maksutov F/14.3 ( planets).
Most used Eyepieces: *Panoptic 24, *Morpheus 14, *Leica ASPH zoom, *Zeiss barlow, *Pentax XO5.
Commonly used bino's : *Jena 10X50 , * Canon 10X30 IS, *Swarovski Habicht 7X42, * Celestron 15X70, *Kasai 2.3X40
Rijswijk Public Observatory: * Astro-Physics Starfire 130 f/8, * 6 inch Newton, * C9.25, * Meade 14 inch LX600 ACF, *Lunt.

Very informative comparison John. The cluster though looks nicely in both instruments.

EPs: Pentax: XWs & XFs; TeleVue: Delites, Panoptic & Plossls; ES: 68, 62; Vixen: SLVs; Baader: BCOs, Aspherics, Mark IV.

Hi John. Thanks for the nice comparison sketches using the two instruments. They are both nice as M44 (The Beehive open cluster) is always a nice target. Thanks for sharing your artwork comparison John and keep looking up.

I love M44. I sketched it many years ago before I started astrophotography.

Your sketches are great. Unlike you, mine took several days to get right.
