Just when I had complained on this forum about the bad weather in March, the sky cleared during a few hours. Mistress Atmosphere must have heard. So I hurried to go out with my 102 mm F5 Startravel, the grabngo. Although the wind was quite fierce and felt cold, the seeing seemed all right.

I said goodbye to M42, Rigel ,Alnitak, Eta Orionis, Sigma Ori, the beautiful doublestars in Orion. Goodby Winter, hello Spring! So hello to Algieba in Leo and Izar in Bootes. The Moon should not be forgotten, lots of details on the terminator.

I remembered the conjunction of Mars and M35 and directed to Mars. With its almost 7 arcseconds diameter no details were seen. As a matter of fact Mars had turned its dullest side to us. A nice orange little ball, not even round....nothing more. In the 24mm Panoptic 3 degrees field of view M35 was apparent too. Doubling the magnification with my 11mm Nagler made it even more pleasant. M35 and Mars just fitted in the field of view. Since it was worth a sketch, I made one with only the brightest stars of M35. Couldn't finish it since the clouds came in. Finished it with the help of Stellarium this morning. A hybrid sketch.

Nice sketches (as always), John! Algieba and Izar, two of my favorite outreach doubles. I've heard Izar referred to as the "snowman". Does look a bit like one. This report should be good for VROD!

Hi John. A very nice set of sketches from you using your 102 mm F5 Startravel telescope. All of them are superb artworks but my favorite is the Mars and M35 (NGC 2168) open cluster. Thanks for sharing these with us John and congratulations on receiving the TSS VROD Award today.
